Why Professional Headshots Are So Important

Why Professional Headshots Are So Important

In running my business, it’s important that I look at algorithms, themes, and numbers. What’s the connection to this photo over other “standard” headshots? It’s pretty obvious and somewhat clichè, but we heavily connect to the eyes when looking at a photo. There is something that makes Kaylee (pictured above) approachable in this photograph. She feels like someone we could sit with and have a meaningful conversation with.

This is why professional headshots and branding for your business are so important. With everything being online now, we get to “see” people before we meet them. When I get a recommendation for a business, restaurant, company, etc., the first thing I do is go look at their website and social media. I want to see if they’ve invested in their company and how seriously they take themselves. I want to make sure I’m hiring a professional. I want to feel that connection with them before ever reaching out.

Modern JW Marriott Resort Engagement Session

Modern JW Marriott Resort Engagement Session

I don’t normally encourage my couples to do their session inside of a hotel, but this resort was so beautifully curated. The furniture was modern and the light pouring in created this moody glow. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone with film and metering, and I’m so glad that I did. I wanted to show off the light coming through Christina’s jumpsuit, as well as the overall connection between the two of them. We finished the session on the beach, right around sunset. These are some of my favorite engagement photos I’ve ever taken. This is what can happen when you hire a photographer you trust. They gave me total freedom and trusted in the process.

40th Wedding Anniversary and Extended Family Session

40th Wedding Anniversary and Extended Family Session

Alison reached out to me because there were so many recent events to celebrate and she wanted it all captured on film. Being an extremely talented wedding and event florist in Oklahoma City, she knows the value of photography and capturing those key moments. Alison’s immediate family was traveling to Alys Beach to celebrate her parent’s 40th wedding anniversary. It was a time that everyone was going to be in one place together, celebrating an important milestone. What made this trip even more special is that a recent health scare had them thinking that their dad might not be making this trip. Luckily he was okay, but this was a big reason behind the need for making sure they had tangible memories from their trip. During the session Alison and I talked about how scared they had all been. How her dad was such a key part of their family and how much these photographs were going to mean to all of them. Not only for the kids, but as the grandchildren got older.

Delray Beach Boudoir Session

Delray Beach Boudoir Session

The women who stand before me are true works of art. The simplicity from this session just blew me away.

A is a florist who lives in a different state. She and I have been following each other on Instagram for years. We had talked here and there, but never met in person. She messaged me almost a year ago, letting me know she was going to be in my area and was finally ready to set up a boudoir session. She told me that she had been waiting because I was the one that HAD to photograph her (talk about an honor). We did the session in an AirBnB that she and her husband were staying in to attend a friend’s wedding. She made sure to find one that was neutral with some great natural light. The best light was in the living room, so I ended up moving the couch and some tables out of the way. Like I said in my previous post, I’ll move mountains to get my clients the best photographs.
