You Are What I'm Grateful For | West Palm Beach Family Photographer | Shannon Griffin Photography

As an adult, I don’t particularly get into the holidays as much as I did when I was a child. There isn’t the same sense of wonder and magic. It’s also the busiest time of year for me (I had a family session yesterday, on Christmas Eve). I’m also very aware that the holidays are not wonderful for everyone. There are a lot of people that don’t have family, friends, a roof over their head, etc. This time of year brings up a lot of depression and anxiety in many. There is no rule that says that you have to be happy and celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas or Hanukkah or any other holiday.

This is where I feel truly lucky. I’m working right up until being with my family, I suffer from anxiety and some depression, and I feel like I’m not getting any time for myself, but…I’m happy as hell. That’s a lot for me to be able to say that. I know a lot of that is because of you, my clients. A big part of my self worth comes from my business, it comes from holding time still for you. It always sounds clichè, but I couldn’t do any of this without you. You keep my passion alive. You keep me believing in myself and my business. You’ve kept my doors open and a fire in my belly for over 10 years.

A Boudoir Session Can Help With Your Anxiety

A Boudoir Session Can Help With Your Anxiety

This article really hit home for me. “I have generalized anxiety disorder, which seeps into every aspect of my life, including my appearance.”, says the writer, Jamie Friedlander. There have been times I’ve been completely obsessed with my appearance and other times where I won’t wear makeup for weeks at a time. It just depends on how I’m feeling about myself overall. What I love about Jamie’s experience is that she did it. That’s it. That was so incredibly brave to face down her anxiety and do the damn session. Anxiety is such an enemy and just waking up and facing it day-to-day is a feat in itself.

I was crying the entire time I was reading Jamie’s words. These tears were two-part for me. I felt Jamie’s fear. I felt her crippling anxiety and obsession. On the other hand, I know what boudoir can do for women and it made me smile, through those tears, knowing that another deserving woman saw herself differently that day. She now has a reminder of how INCREDIBLE she is every time she looks at her photographs.

Delray Beach Boudoir Session

Delray Beach Boudoir Session

The women who stand before me are true works of art. The simplicity from this session just blew me away.

A is a florist who lives in a different state. She and I have been following each other on Instagram for years. We had talked here and there, but never met in person. She messaged me almost a year ago, letting me know she was going to be in my area and was finally ready to set up a boudoir session. She told me that she had been waiting because I was the one that HAD to photograph her (talk about an honor). We did the session in an AirBnB that she and her husband were staying in to attend a friend’s wedding. She made sure to find one that was neutral with some great natural light. The best light was in the living room, so I ended up moving the couch and some tables out of the way. Like I said in my previous post, I’ll move mountains to get my clients the best photographs.
