Alison’s immediate family was traveling to Alys Beach to celebrate her parent’s 40th wedding anniversary. It was a time that everyone was going to be in one place together, celebrating an important milestone. What made this trip even more special is that a recent health scare had them thinking that their dad might not be making this trip. Luckily he was okay, but this was a big reason behind the need for making sure they had tangible memories from their trip. During the session Alison and I talked about how scared they had all been. How her dad was such a key part of their family and how much these photographs were going to mean to all of them. Not only for the kids, but as the grandchildren got older.

Photographing Your Family Every Year
This is a mom who has several gallery walls in her home, so we knew that a gallery collection was going to be the right fit for her. We worked together to get her the perfect frames, prints, and designs. It’s so important that I listen to each individual’s needs because everyone is so different. I love that when she walked up her stairs she got to see her family on her walls. That’s a feeling you aren’t going to get by looking at your photos on your computer every couple of months.

How long have you been saying, “I really need to print these photographs and put them up”?
Be honest. You know it’s been a while, probably entirely too long.
Do you know why you haven’t done it yet? It’s too overwhelming. Let’s look at some possible reasons as to why you haven’t done it:
You don’t have the time.
You don’t know which photos will look good next to each other.
You don’t know where to have your photographs printed.
You don’t know where to purchase museum quality frames.
You don’t know where the digital files are.
You don’t know how to put a gallery wall together.
You don’t know how to get custom sized prints and frames for your unique space.
You don’t know where to start.
That's where a professional comes in. When I first started photography I just wanted to photograph the session, hand over the digital files, and be done with it. I started to notice that a lot of my couples, families, and boudoir clients had no clue what to do with these files. I would talk to them a year later and the files would still be sitting on their computer. This broke my heart and it was my job to come up with a solution. It's not fair to call myself a professional photographer if I'm not putting in the work.

I just got off of a phone call with a fellow boudoir photographer who was inquiring about my one-on-one mentoring sessions. We talked for over an hour about why we do this, why it’s SO incredibly important for women to experience these sessions, and why we do in-person sales (as opposed to just throwing the digital files at our clients and making them figure it out). No matter what is said or learned, it always comes down to the fact that we do this for HER; the client. I won’t lie and tell you this job is easy, it’s not. We spend about 10% of our time actually photographing and the other is spent on our business. We market, network, budget, figure out the best products for our clients, order samples, continue our education, do consultations, do ordering sessions, drive hours to our clients locations, etc. We lose sleep, wondering how to continue to provide a one-of-a-kind luxury service that will set us apart from other photographers. It’s a constant rollercoaster of having incredible highs and really low lows. So why? Why am I still doing this, after 10 years in business and 20 years of photographing?

This precious family just relocated and it got me thinking about how special it’s been to photograph them every year (before I moved to West Palm Beach, myself). We were able to create this incredible relationship that allowed their three girls to trust me and knowledge that I was going to get them the best heirlooms for their home. It was really neat to be able to email Autumn (mom) every year to set up a session. She knew that these girls were growing fast and wanted to make sure that she captured each one of their personalities as the years flew by.
