Let's Finally Get Those Photographs onto Your Walls

How long have you been saying, “I really need to print these photographs and get them hung”?

Be honest. You know it’s been a while, probably entirely too long.

Do you know why you haven’t done it yet? It’s too overwhelming. Let’s look at some possible reasons as to why you haven’t done it:

  1. You don’t have the time.

  2. You don’t know which photos will look good next to each other.

  3. You don’t know where to have your photographs printed.

  4. You don’t know where to purchase museum quality frames.

  5. You don’t know where the digital files are.

  6. You don’t know how to put a gallery wall together.

  7. You don’t know how to get custom sized prints and frames for your unique space.

  8. You don’t know where to start.

That's where a professional comes in. When I first started photography I just wanted to photograph the session, hand over the digital files, and be done with it. I started to notice that a lot of my couples, families, and boudoir clients had no clue what to do with these files. I would talk to them a year later and the files would still be sitting on their computer. This broke my heart and it was my job to come up with a solution. It's not fair to call myself a professional photographer if I'm not putting in the work.

If my goal is to tell your story from start to finish, then I need to help from start to finish. This means phone calls to go over what the session will entail, helping with wardrobe choices, picking a location that will work for your end goal of what products you want in your home, photographing your session in a way that memorializes what your life is really like during that time, editing your photographs, and then GETTING THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS ON YOUR WALLS!

Now, let’s look at how we’re going to get you perfectly framed prints:

  1. Before the session even takes place, we will look at the walls in your home. This will be in person or on Zoom (I do this a lot with my destination clients).

  2. We will look at the colors of your home and the overall aesthetic.

  3. We will already be thinking about frame colors and thicknesses.

  4. We will take photos of your walls and necessary measurements.

  5. I will upload the photos of your walls into my design software.

  6. Before your session, I look at a lot of inspiration photos, based on the space in your home that you’re wanting to hang the art. You can find a lot of inspiration on my wall gallery Pinterest board. I always want your gallery to feel fresh and beautifully designed.

  7. After your session, when all photos are edited, I will pre-design your wall galleries before our Reveal and Ordering session.

  8. During your Reveal and Order session, I will show you the wall collections I’ve designed for your space, custom to your specs.

  9. We can leave as is, or fine-tune the galleries to fit your PERFECT vision.

  10. You order during our session and then I send it to my lab the following day.

  11. They custom make your matted and framed prints.

  12. They are mailed right to your door or hand-delivered by me.

  13. If requested, I can arrange for a professional installer to come to your home and hang them.

  14. You now have custom art of your most precious memories in your home.

  15. It’s truly that simple.

Let’s look at some examples of what this process looks like.

This first one was extremely complicated. My client was moving into a new home in Tribeca and had an incredible winding staircase that she wanted to fill with photos from her session. This is where I had to really put pen to paper, outside of just using my design software. There was no way for her to get a photo of each level straight on. So, I had her send me a video and the best possible photos she could get. I sent the photos to my designer and she drafted up a some blueprints for me to use. I plugged those blueprints into my software, along with measurements (some from my client and others based on this designer’s knowledge of spaces). I was able to show her what these photos would look like, to scale, on her new walls. Imagine if she tried to do that on her own.

This is what I had to work with:

This staircase has an incredibly high ceiling, so I knew I wanted the photos to go as high as possible. If you have the space, showcase it!

These were some of my inspiration photos from Pinterest:

Here are some final designs I sent. I also used some stock image rooms to show her how gorgeous they would look because I know it can be hard to visualize in the renderings. But, the renderings were crucial because she needed to see what these photographs would look like printed at a very specific size.

Bellow is another example of why I use this program. Many times I’ll hear client’s say, “I think I just want a few 8x10s or 11x14s for the room.” Those are standard sizes and a lot of people think that these are “large” prints. It’s great to show the difference of a few 11x14s compared to doing a custom canvas collage statement piece.

Here’s the room with 3 11x14s:

Here’s the room with a custom 90x30 collage canvas wrap:

It’s also about feeling my client’s out and figuring out if less is more. Both of these custom collections fit beautifully in this space. It really depends on which one they are gravitating toward. It’s so important to listen, take a look around the rest of their home, and truly get a feel for who they are in their own home and space.

Just a few more custom gallery wall collections I’ve designed:

This is a boudoir client of mine, and fellow photographer, who sent me photos of what her frames looked like in her new home:

I know it's overwhelming to think about putting art in your home and that's why I want to help with the process. My clients hire me based on trust and knowing that I'm going to give them the best possible experience and finished product.

I would love to help you fill your home with incredible memories! I know a lot of us have extra time on our hands. If you’re a past client, or just someone who needs a little design help, please feel free to reach out to me about custom designs. It could even be a piece of art that you aren’t sure about fitting in. I’m happy to donate some of my time to help with your design needs. We’re all in this together and realizing just how important loved ones and memories are.
