What You've Taught Me

What You've Taught Me

I love looking at the “Top Nine” most liked photos of the year. It’s a way to not only reflect on moments captured and memories made, but it also shows me what YOU connect with the most. I used to be so afraid to put myself out there. I was afraid of rejection and possibly, even more so, connection.

Connection meant that you were actually engaged. It meant that you cared about what I was putting out there and that also meant that I had an obligation. It was no longer about me and my work. Putting myself out there meant that every time I posted a photograph or to my blog, you were reading my words.

Photographing Your Family Every Year in West Palm Beach

Photographing Your Family Every Year in West Palm Beach

This precious family just relocated and it got me thinking about how special it’s been to photograph them every year (before I moved to West Palm Beach, myself). We were able to create this incredible relationship that allowed their three girls to trust me and knowledge that I was going to get them the best heirlooms for their home. It was really neat to be able to email Autumn (mom) every year to set up a session. She knew that these girls were growing fast and wanted to make sure that she captured each one of their personalities as the years flew by.

40th Wedding Anniversary and Extended Family Session

40th Wedding Anniversary and Extended Family Session

Alison reached out to me because there were so many recent events to celebrate and she wanted it all captured on film. Being an extremely talented wedding and event florist in Oklahoma City, she knows the value of photography and capturing those key moments. Alison’s immediate family was traveling to Alys Beach to celebrate her parent’s 40th wedding anniversary. It was a time that everyone was going to be in one place together, celebrating an important milestone. What made this trip even more special is that a recent health scare had them thinking that their dad might not be making this trip. Luckily he was okay, but this was a big reason behind the need for making sure they had tangible memories from their trip. During the session Alison and I talked about how scared they had all been. How her dad was such a key part of their family and how much these photographs were going to mean to all of them. Not only for the kids, but as the grandchildren got older.

Forget The Clutter

Forget The Clutter

“Forget the clutter” can mean so many different things. This could mean in your home, in your head, and in your general life. It’s such a common thing for photographers to hear, “I would kill to do a session with you, but my home isn’t where I want it.” or “I would love to do a lifestyle newborn session, but the nursery isn’t finished and the house is a wreck since I’ve been taking care of a newborn.” There are also plenty of times where something is pulling these people to book with me, but something else stops them from doing it. I’m here to say DON’T HESITATE. Life is so incredibly short and you’re going to be so glad that you paused to encapsulate your most precious memories. Your kids are only young once. Tomorrow is never promised.
