Life Photographer

If you asked me what the highest honor of my career is, I would tell you it is when I get to photograph repeat clients. Yes, beautiful photography is important, but more important than that is the experience. I want the people that stand in front of my camera to want to return to it year after year. I want their photographs to line the walls of their homes. I used to love looking at the family vacation photos that the Kennedys had taken every year they traveled. Real moments. Raw moments.

Krysten is someone who I’ve photographed through all of her huge life events. We were new friends when I photographed her wedding and now she is like a sister. We’ve built a trust around my camera and she allows me to fully create art. When new life events come up we already know I’m going to be there to photograph it. We create mood boards and talk locations. She’s hired me to photograph her engagement session in Tallahassee, wedding in Jupiter, maternity photos in Atlanta and Miami, boudoir in Tallahassee, and travel to Oregon. What an incredible ride.

I love travel, I love photography, and I love documenting real moments in people’s lives. I hope to be many people’s “life photographer” during my career.

From Krysten:

“Eight years ago when I first met Shannon, I had no idea that she would become the person that documents our entire lives. I was working as a bridal stylist in an up-and-coming bridal boutique in Tallahassee, FL. We first met at a bridal show and then again when she brought a cd (yes, those were popular then) of images from a recent blogpost into the shop. We got to chatting. I told her that I was engaged and that I would LOVE to have someone like her photograph my wedding but that my family was very traditional and that it would be a hard sell for my parents to use anyone other than an traditional old photographer in South FL. Well, I poured over her blog (I can tell you every detail from a wedding she shot around that time). I even toured that venue for my own wedding. Months go by, my obsession got the better of me, and I scheduled an engagement shoot with Shannon. It couldn’t have been more perfect. That was the first time I had been in front of her lens and her natural inclination to make her clients feel their best is intoxicating. This session occurred in the beginning of the Pinterest obsession and I had LOTS of ideas. I’m very sentimental and almost everything I brought to that shoot had meaning. Shannon took the most beautiful and meaningful photos of not only my fiancé and I, but of the little heirlooms that I brought along. After our engagement shoot, it was a no-brainer: Shannon would be photographing our wedding. Our wedding day was here, all the guests were on their way. Once again, just about everything incorporated into our ceremony and reception had some special meaning. Shannon made sure to capture them all. I wore two wedding rings on my right hand, one belonging to my grandmother, and the other belonging to her mother. I desperately wanted a beautiful shot of these rings with my dress but I was stumped as to hold my hands, arms, and body. As we’re taking wedding portraits, Shannon’s genius struck and she asked my to bring my hands to a prayer. The light was perfect, my veil was perfect, the sleeves on my lace bolero were pristine. When I saw the photograph weeks later, I was beyond floored. She captured want I wanted before I even knew I wanted it. I treasure all of the photos from that day and am so grateful for her brilliance (and patience). Since then, Shannon has photographed so many life events for us. A boudoir session, two maternity sessions, a newborn session, a mommy-baby session, one-year-old photos, and even a couples’ session in Oregon. (We got lucky on that one! We were visiting family around the same time she was photographing a wedding.) Each session has been the best she has ever done. We have been apart of her switch to film and have been beyond delighted each and every time we receive our photos. We continually feel beautiful and seen every time she snaps a photo and we are always excited for the next magnificent capture of our little lives. I would never have imagined that when I met her back in Tallahassee that she would be our life photographer but here she is and on to the next gorgeous set of photographs from her incredible eye.”
