In your family’s life, what are the moments that have mattered the most? Are there moments that are forever tied to your memory? What if you had photographs of those moments? Imagine having documentation, and physical proof that those memories really happened.
What would it feel like to pass those tangible memories down to your children?
As a parent, you’ve realized that there is so much beauty to be found in the “ordinary”. There are times you look into a room, with your kids playing, and you wish that everyone else could see what you see. If only your kids could FEEL how much you love them.
How magical was bath time the first few months of your child’s life? Do you remember reading to them when they were little? Did they watch and messily try to help you make breakfast? How much time do you spend in your backyard playing with each other? What about those quiet moments between siblings, when they actually stop arguing and find peace within each other?
What if you could have a full day documenting all of these “ordinary” and beautiful moments?
Another question I like to ask mothers is, “How often are you the one taking the photograph?” How many family memories are you actually in? Does anyone take photos of you in those quiet moments? Have you been able to see what you look like, head back, laughing so hard that you don’t care what you look like? Have you been able to see the way your partner looks at you when you don’t know that they are? Have you been able to see the way your children find comfort in your lap?
I want to document all of that. I want to tell your family’s legacy through photographs.
Day in the Life Sessions captivate and move so many that witness the photographs because there is a “rawness” to them. There is no forced posing. It’s come as you are and love in those moments. Your family gets to just BE. There is time to play, relax, love, dance, cry, walk away, take breaks, come back, and be real. These are my favorite sessions to photograph because people get to just exist and they are perfectly beautiful doing just that.
This session I’m sharing was in San Francisco. The family lives in Florida, but wanted to document their time on vacation. This was a few years ago, but I was recently inspired to share it again when the mother wrote me this, upon seeing the photographs again:
“Now that I’m done crying I can write that seeing these photos brought up so many new feelings, amazing how the meaning of an image can change throughout the years. I’ve seen these dozens of times and always noticed how much they depicted my love for her but it wasn’t until today that I realized that they also tell the story of how much she loved me, back when I was still too deep in the weeds to see it for myself. There are no words to express my gratitude for what a gift that is.”
Your family is worth it. You are worth it.
